The incumbent will assemble and load case ca! rts for surgical cases based on surgeon's preference card and ! ensure that case carts are delivered to the surgical suites in time to meet the surgical schedule. Maintains a current knowledge of sterilization, high-level disinfection and decontamination processes, including new methods and supplies, packing medical instruments and items, and preparing trays and set in order to instruct the employees in the sterilization and decontamination processes and answer questions of other employees on procedures. Adheres to proper patient identification process for sample collection; verifies samples are labeled with the required attributes and verifies request forms are legible and completed without discrepancies. Performs blood and body fluid analyses using constituent and the study of coagulation system. Receives requests for testing into the Laboratory; functions as a resources person for VAMC personnel on specimen collection requirements and patient preparation for any lab request. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Time-in-grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-6.
Specialized Experience: Experience in processing, assembling, trouble-shooting, preparing, sterilizing, storing, and issuing sterile and unsterile medical supplies and equipment. The applicant must possess knowledge of the technical names, general uses, physical characteristics, and operating conditions of medical supply items; knowledge of decontamination, cleaning, preparation, sterilization, and storage procedures; knowledge of aseptic techniques; and skill in operating a washer-sterilizer, ultrasonic instrument cleaners, and gas and steam sterilizers. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include work as an operating roo! m technician, medical instrument technician, nursing assistant, corpsma! n, or laboratory worker.
You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) based on your application for this position.
1. Knowledge of SPD procedures in order to coordinate daily activities in all areas of SPD.
2. Knowledge of systematic inflow and outflow of processed and prepackaged medical/surgical supplies.
3. Ability to coordinate daily activities and assignments of assigned staff.
4. Knowledge of micro biology in order to support infection and standard (universal) precaution practices.
5. Knowledge of customer service practices.
