Sterile Processing Technician

ROLE SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Sterile Processing Technician decontaminates, cleans, processes, sterilizes, stores, and distributes reusable medical devices and supplies used in patient care.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Decontaminates and cleans reusable equipment and/or supplies and associated storage units in accordance with department, manufacturer, and OSHA standards.
2. Assembles, stores, and distributes reusable medi! cal equipment and/or supplies for patient care.
3. R! ounds assigned areas to ensure equipment and/or supplies and storage units are maintained in a timely manner.
4. Maintains appropriate documentation of equipment/supply processing.
5. Adheres to proper infection control and safety practices. Ensures proper handling of instruments and equipment to prevent damage or loss.
6. Monitors for equipment and/or supplies in need of repair or replacement and notifies appropriate department personnel.
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
OPERATING ROOM: Sort, assemble and pack surgical instruments, trays and supplies following established protocol, recipe card, and/or manufacturerâs instructions. Monitor and maintain shelf inventory in the Operating Room and Sterile Processing department. Assembles case carts for surgeries.
BIOMEDICAL: Transports equipment between Biomedical Engineering and other departments. Acquires missing information on Biomed repair tags to assis! t with the repair process. Assists in Biomed shop maintenance and cleanup.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
· High school diploma or GED
· Sterile processing or operating room technician experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Industrial cle! aning experience
