Legal Secretary/Paralegal [South Africa]


 

Our law firm is looking to employ the services of a legal secretary/Paralegal to undertake a variety of administrative and clerical tasks in the litigation and commercial department. The candidate will work under the supervision of two attorneys and will also provide support in assigned legal cases. The goal is to sustain efficiency of all office procedures and case management so as to guarantee reliability and consistency.

Previous experience as a legal secretary is required (Minimum of 3-5 years)

Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to 2 (two) senior attorneys
  • Conduct all legal secretary duties such as opening of files, diary management, printing, filing etc
  • File administration
  • Effectively communicate with clients, colleagues and attorneys (in particular, take and keep detailed notes of matters dealt with, drafting of emails and telephone etiquette).
  • Type out and file various legal documents such as letters, appeals and motions
  • High court experience, Magistrate court experience, Diary management, Litigation, RAF/Medical Negligence experience, Preparing mediation, arbitration and Trial bundles.
  • Prepare briefs to counsel
  • Manage and update diaries, schedule meetings, Answer phone calls, take notes/messages and redirect calls when appropriate.
  • Facilitate the meeting of deadlines by keeping multiple agendas and provide timely reminders
  • Prospective candidate must be able to use own initiative and drive to take charge and responsibility as directed by attorneys.
  • Office Management - arrange beverages and meals for meetings with clients, external attorneys and advocates.
  • Prospective must be willing to work after hours and weekends as and when required.

  • Proficiency in English and one other language

  • Ability to multitask

Computer Skills

  • Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10
  • Fully proficient in MS Word, Excel & Outlook
  • Power Point (MS Office 2007 - MS Office 2016)

  • Internet Usage on research

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: Up to R15,000.00 per month

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Johannesburg, Gauteng: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
