ROLE SUMMARY
The Unit Secretary acts as receptionist for the unit, answering and relaying patient calls, accepting and relaying other communications, transcribing p! hysician orders, performing clerical tasks, completing and maintaining reports and records, and ordering supplies. The Unit Secretary takes direction from the unit clinical staff, reports concerns to the Charge Nurse and is accountable to Nurse Manager or Department Director.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Under direct supervision, performs clerical tasks required in preparation of routine correspondence and reports. Screens, refers or responds to telephone inquiries. Arranges appointments and greets visitors. Handles incoming and outgoing mail. Maintains files and record systems. Performs basic computer applications including word processing and spreadsheets.
7. May assist with maintaining Kronos for the department; may watch unit camera and notify staff of patient activity. This does not include one on one in patient room.
8. Completes mandatory education and contact education requirements .

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
CARE CLINIC AND SAME! DAY SURGERY: Transcribes orders accurately and timely, co! llaborating with RN when necessary. Collaborates with other departments to obtain lab, radiology, EKGs and other preoperative tests as necessary. Verifies and collaborates with other departments and physician offices to assure accuracy and completeness of patient charts. Communicates updates, changes, abnormal lab, xray, or EKG results to RN for follow up.

PHYSICAL THERAPY: Assists with cleaning and stocking and ordering equipment.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

  • Proficient with MS Office, Outlook and Internet Explorer
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrates an independent work initiative, sound judgment and attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Proficient with standard office equipment
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education and/or experience
  • S pecialty certifications as required ! per department:
o BLS required for Emergency Department and Women and Children’s Services
o Completion of de-escalation training within three months of hire required for Behavioral Health

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior experience in a clinical setting
