Under general supervision, the Sterile Processing Instrument Tech decontaminates, cleans, processes, sterilizes, stores, and distributes reusable medical devices and supplies used in pat ient care.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Decontaminates and cleans reusable equipment and/or supplies and associated storage units in accordance with department, manufacturer, and OSHA standards.
2. Assembles, stores, and distributes reusable medical equipment and/or supplies for patient care.
3. Rounds assigned areas to ensure equipment and/or supplies and storage units are maintained in a timely manner.
4. Performs and documents quality control aspects of sterile processing.
5. Maintains records and documentation of for all aspects of instrument processing and the sterilization process.
6. Adheres to proper infection control and safety practices. Ensures proper handling of instruments and equipment to prevent damage or loss.
7. Monitors for equipment and/or supplies in need of repair or replacement and notifies appropriate department personnel.
8. Sorts, assembles and packs surgical instruments, tr ays and supplies following established protocol, recipe card, and/or manufacturer's instructions. Assembles case carts for surgeries.
9. Monitors and maintains shelf inventory in the Operating Room and Sterile Processing department.
10. Flexes work hours to support the needs of the department and overtime if appropriate.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

- Ability to process basic mathematical calculations
- Ability to work varying schedules
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology
- Basic knowledge of inventory control concepts
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to rotate call and weekends
- Six months sterile processing or operating room related experience
- Certification through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing or International Association of Healthcare and Central Service Material Management within one year of hire
